The Keamuku Maneuver Area fires are 100% contained, with between 1,500 and 1,800 total acres burned between the two fires, the Army said in a Wednesday statement.
Three U.S. Army military helicopters from the 25th Infantry Division on Oahu continued to conduct water bucket drops Wednesday morning, with 45 drops, totaling almost 38,000 gallons of water.
On Tuesday, 97 bucket drops were performed, dropping almost 91,000 gallons of water.
Total drops for the entire incident are 222 buckets, totaling more than 200,000 gallons of water.
The fires were sparked by lightning strikes over the weekend.
“Thank you for the incredible teamwork of everyone involved in fighting this fire. From the brave firefighters, to the incredible dozer operators, to the U.S. Army military helicopter crews sent over from Oahu, everyone’s team efforts are truly inspiring. We remain thankful to our incredible community for their support, and are proud to be a member of this team of teams,” said Lt. Col. Kevin Cronin, Pohakuloa Training Area’s commanding officer.
The PTA Fire and Emergency Services team will continue to monitor the area.
