Get tips to grow healthy orchids at AARP Hawaii webinar
Orchids seem boundless in Hawaii, but how to grow them and get them to bloom are mysteries to many. Get seven tips to help beginning and experienced gardeners grow healthy, flowering orchids at a free AARP Hawaii webinar next month.
Brad Lau, president of Honolulu Orchid Society, will share seven orchid-growing tips at a Zoom webinar on Feb. 15, at 10 a.m. He will also share his knowledge about what to do after orchids bloom, what orchids are easiest to grow, and the right spot to grow a healthy plant.

Coffee Symposium for Agribusinesses to be held in Kona
The Kona Coffee Farmers Association is hosting a symposium for all coffee growers and agribusinesses on Friday, Feb. 24, at the Outrigger Keauhou Resort. It will be a full day of coffee-related speakers, information and networking. Vendors will be on site, to share the latest information and technology.
Speakers will include Sharon Hurd, the new Department of Agriculture Chair, conveying her vision on the future of ag in Hawaii. Also, USDA ARS Scientists will present the latest research and guidance on coffee leaf rust. This will include fungicide efficacies in the field, how different pruning methods may reduce CLR and the relationship between soil health, strong trees and CLR incidence. Speakers on agroforestry techniques for farm health, invasive species and marketing and more will round out the day.
Growers may also sign up for coffee roasting workshops, to be held on Saturday, Feb. 25.
For Kona Coffee Farmers Association’s Annual General Meeting will also be held during the event, with an update on KCFA activities and election of new board members.
Registration is required prior to Feb. 10 at https://konacoffeefarmers.org/?p=163321. Free to members, and only $40 for lunch for nonmembers and guests. 100% Kona coffee will be served. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with sign-in and coffee beginning at 8 a.m.
