Barney Alvarez
Barney Alvarez, 67, of Honokaa, died Dec. 30, 2022. Born April 15, 1955, in Honolulu, he served in the U.S. Navy, and worked for North Hawaii Community Hospital. Services will be held Jan. 27 at Imiola Congregational Church in Waimea; visitation 9 to 10 a.m.; with (Military Honors by US Navy) Memorial service to follow. He is survived by wife Penny Alvarez, of Honokaa; daughters Amber (Shantelle) Jacobson of Minnesota, Jadelyn (Kaleo) Kalahiki of Waikoloa; sons Sean (Janice) Alvarez of Honolulu, Keith Alvarez of Oregon; sisters Hermainia Peters of Michigan, Davealyn Alvarez of California, Agnes Cooley of Hilo, Paulene (Kai) King of Waikoloa, Melissa (Dean) Shimomura of Kapolei; brothers Robert (Carla) Alvarez of Hilo, Stephen (Faye) Alvarez of Waimea, Duane (Ranei) Alvarez of Kailua, Lincoln (Kailani) Alvarez of Honolulu, Herbert (Clara) Alvarez of Hilo; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Anna M. Corpus, 84, of Honokaa, died Dec. 10, 2022 in Honokaa. Born March 27, 1938, in Honolulu, she worked for a macadamia nut candy processing company and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa. Friends may call Jan. 28 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa, visitation from 8 to 9:30 a.m.; memorial Mass at 10 a.m. She is survived by her children, Annalee (Wayne) Houseright of North Caroline, William (Marrisa) Amalato of Paauilo, Bernard Amalato of California, Cliff Amalato of Maui and Garret Corpus of Florida; sisters, Frances Escobido of Connecticut and Dominga Davalos of California; numerous nieces and nephews; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
