Hirono announces nominees to service academies
U.S. Mazie K. Hirono recently announced the nomination of over three dozen Hawaii students to U.S. military service academies for the Class of 2027, including two Hawaii Island high school students. The academies now consider the students’ applications for final selections.
“Every year, I’m impressed and inspired by the young people from across our state who seek to serve their nation by attending one of our military service academies,” said Hirono. “This year’s applicants have displayed academic excellence and a commitment to service, and I’m confident they will represent Hawaii well. I look forward to seeing all they will accomplish in the years ahead.”
Nominees from the Big Island include Rayden Kukahiwa, of Hilo High School, who was nominated to both the U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Naval Academy, and Lance Thornton, of Konawaena High School, who was nominated to U.S. Air Force Academy.
