Residents named to Dean’s List
Two Waimea residents have earned placement on the Gonzaga University Dean’s List for fall semester 2022.
Christopher Chock and Margaret Sommerhoff were listed for having earned a 3.5 to 3.84 grade-point average.
Gonzaga University is a humanistic, private Catholic University providing a Jesuit education to more than 7,500 students. Situated along the Spokane River near downtown Spokane, Washington, Gonzaga is routinely recognized among the West’s best comprehensive regional universities. Gonzaga offers over 75 fields of study, 24 master’s degrees, four doctoral degrees in one college and six schools.
Meanwhile, Stephanie Kate Onza, of Honokaa, was named to the Knox College Dean’s List of distinguished students for the 2022 Fall Term. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must have earned at least 2.5 credits in the term, with a grade point average of 3.6 or better (on a 4.0 scale).
Founded in 1837, Knox College is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois. Knox enrolls students from nearly every state and more than 50 countries and is one of the Colleges That Change Lives. Knox’s “Old Main” is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.

Vera Cruz achieves academic honors
Taj Vera Cruz of Waimea achieved the President’s List for the fall 2022 semester at Nichols College.
The President’s List and Dean’s List recognize those students who achieve high grades during a single semester. To be included on the President’s List, a student must have a grade point average of 3.85 or higher for at least 12 undergraduate credit-hours and must have received no grades below B- during the semester. Students with a minimum grade point average of 3.5 for at least 12 undergraduate credit-hours and no grades below B- will receive Dean’s List honors.
