Residents deserve better
As the rare Mauna Loa eruption took place, we were forced to watch our local government slam the residents with threats of huge fines and towed vehicles for the crime of experiencing a roadside view.
If our government is playig fair, the eyesore at the bottom of Maunakea Access Road should be given equal treatment — fines and removal of trash apparently deemed sacred. And while our leaders are pondering crimes, let’s remove from office the persons responsible for the last week-long chaotic Ironman mess.
The residents deserve better than what our governemnt is giving us.

A huge mahalo and aloha
to retiring WHT reporter
I’m writing to give a huge mahalo and aloha to County/Government Reporter Nancy Cook Lauer as she prepares to retire at the end of the month. Ms. Lauer has provided a wealth of objective reporting to the public in her years of covering Hawaii County government (and other topics). If I read a story by Ms. Lauer, I knew it would be objective and thorough, with details and information I could use to form my own opinion. I’m so grateful for her work, and I wish her well as she leaves the job. And I sincerely hope that WHT will find somebody who will devote the same time, attention, thoroughness, and professionalism to the work of informing the public about what’s going on in our local government.

Praise for the people of Puako
I had visited all of the islands in the Hawaiian island chain and love the Big Island (Hawaii Island) the most. The Puako people are truly extra super awesome human beings with their generosity and kindness. The people from Puako are mostly new comers to the Big Island, but, definitely know the Holy Spirit and Aloha Spirit.
Puako is made up of millionaires mostly and these super awesome residents are not hi maka maka. Rather, they are kind and God-loving people. They remind me of my Ukranian church and friends who are the most God-loving people I’ve ever met.
Although I live in Waimea, it is a blessing that I work in Puako for these people are the cat of all cats on the Big Island with my Ukranian friends. Enough said, case closed!
