Edith Kanakaole

Edith “Edie” Leinaala Kanakaole, 90, died Nov. 27, 2022 in Hilo. Born Nov. 16, 1932 at Hilo Memorial Hospital, she was a teacher/educator at Salt Lake City School District, Salt Lake City, Utah, member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Keaau, avid bowler, hot-shot pool player, golf enthusiast, football fanatic, master bartender. Celebration of life/memorial services will be held at a later date. She is survived by sisters, Pualani Kanakaole-Kanahele and Nalani (Sig) Kanakaole-Zane of Hawaii; daughter, Maurine Yamamoto of Hawaii; three grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Ruth Mizuba

Ruth Keech Mizuba, 70, of Keaau, died Nov. 9, 2022 at her residence. Born April 1, 1952, she was a retired state Judiciary social worker and public guardian specialist and member of the Hilo Bay Dance Club, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Big Island Beekeepers Association. Private Services. Donations may be made to Keaau Humane Society in Ruth Mizuba’s name. She is survived by mother, Elizabeth Christeson of Anderson, SC; brother, James Raymond (Rosemary) Keech of Huntington, MD; and sister, Kathryn Elizabeth Poole of Anderson, SC. Peggy McBride

Peggy Ann McBride, 83, of Hilo, died Nov. 30, 2022, at the Hilo Medical Center. She was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa and was a retired hospital nurse’s aide. Private services held. She is survived by sons, Alan McBride of California and David (LiPing) McBride of Japan; daughter, Eileen (Douglas) Johnson of Hilo; brothers, Michael (Nancy) O’Connor of Texas and Robert (Mary Ellen) O’Connor of Iowa; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Ann Inaba

Ann Inaba, 94, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 14, 2022 at her residence. Born in Oklahoma on Dec. 28, 1927, she was a teacher at Konawaena High School and a librarian at Holualoa Elementary School. She was an avid tennis and bridge player. Private services were held. The family requests no koden She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Anthony) Dual from Ocean View and Kailua-Kona; grandson, James (Jasmine Crank) Dual of Kailua-Kona; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Shigeko Hatayama

Shigeko “Peggy” Hatayama, 92, of Mountain View died Nov. 25, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Mountain View, she was a retired hostess and waitress for the Volcano House Restaurant and a member of the Kurtistown Jodo Mission. Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts). She is survived by sons, Howard (Pamela) Hatayama of Oakland, California, Arnold (Soon-Ja) Hatayama of Hilo, Lloyd Hatayama of Mountain View; daughter, Joy (Clifford) Tomosada of Hilo; brother-in-law, Mack Hatayama of Hilo; sisters-in-law, Harriet Kotake of Hilo, Aileen Muramatsu of Kaneohe; six grandchildren, seven great-grand-children, numerous nieces and nephews. Wataru Kohashi

Wataru Kohashi, 100, of Hilo, died Nov. 26, 2022, at J&K Care Home in Keaau. Born in Keaukaha, he was a WWII 442nd RCT Infantry Sergeant twice wounded, retired HELCO millwright foreman and member of the 442nd Veterans Club, AJA Veterans Council, Church of the Holy Apostles and Waiakeawaena Kumiai. Private service to be held at a later date. Family request no flowers or monetary gifts. He is survived by daughters, Lois (Mickey) Sinclair of Port Ludlow, Wash., Julia (Francis) Zee of Hilo; son, Owen (Miky Ishida) Kohashi of Seattle; six grandchildren, Nicholas Sinclair, Kristen Kohashi, Benjamin Zee, Staci Kohashi, Samantha Zee, and Wesley Kohashi; nieces and nephews. Susan Thompson-Lohse

Susan Martha Thompson-Lohse, 78, of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii died on November 14, 2022 in Kealakekua, Hawaii. Born in Massachusetts on January 13, 1944, she was an interior designer. Private services. Pablo Bibilone

Pablo Bibilone, 96, of Mountain View, died Nov. 26, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 2, 1926, in Mountain View; he was a retired Puna Plantation field supervisor and U.S. Army veteran from 1945 to 1947. Friends may call Dec. 19 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, visitation from 4 to 6 p.m.; services at 6 p.m. Urn committal services will be held Dec. 20 at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 (pavilion) at 9 a.m. with military honors He is survived by son, Bert (Janet) Bibilone of Hilo; and four grandchildren.
