Marcelino Babas Sr.
Marcelino Marquez Babas Sr., 91, of Pepeekeo, died Dec. 2, 2022 at his residence. Born Jan. 24, 1931, in Laoac, Pangasinan, Philippines, he worked for Hilo Coast Processing Co. (Pepeekeo Sugar Mill) as a core sampler. Friends may call on Dec. 16 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, visitation from 4 to 6 p.m.; funeral services at 6 p.m. A graveside services will be held on Dec. 17 at 10 a.m., (Section L, Row I, Plot 5.) Casual attire. He is survived by children, Marcelino (Judy) Babas Jr. of Honolulu, Ricarte (Chloe) Babas, Relito Babas, Frankilito (Christina) Babas of Keaau, Francisco (Chelsea) Babas of Hilo, Teodorico (Guylyn) Babas of Mountain View, Grace (Stephanie) Babas of Portland, Oregon, Christopher (Samantha) Babas of Pepeekeo and Sherilyn (Selson) Babas of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; 33 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Flora Tano of Stockton, California and Dionice (Paul) Yamamoto of Hilo; brothers, Francisco (Lorena) Babas and Blesco Babas of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews. Benjamin Delos Santos
Benjamin Delos Santos, 80, of Waimea, died Nov. 11, 2022 at his residence. Born in Honolulu, on Dec. 17, 1941, he was a tree trimmer and treatment plant/pump station maintenance worker for the City and County of Honolulu, a ranch hand and truck driver for Parker Ranch, chef at the Royal Waikoloan and truck driver for numerous trucking companies on the Big Island and Kauai, president of the Kona Bowling Association and board member of the State of Hawaii Bowling Association, red and black belt Kajukenbo professor and a member of the Waimea Annunciation Catholic Church. Visitation will be held at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 17 at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Waimea. Mass will begin at 9 a.m. followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome. He is survived by wife, Alma Delos Santos of Waimea; daughters, Desiree (Jeff) Medeiros of Kohala, Denaise (Clinton) Cariaga, Doreen (Malone) De Silva, Debbie (Jason) Costa, Donna (Jay) Sagucio and Darlene (Michael) Silva, all of Waimea; sisters, Lucy (Fatso) Stokes of Oahu, Cookie (Delfin) Vehemente and Victoria Garza, both of Kailua-Kona, Lorraine (Steve) Cornwall of Oahu and Emmalohalani Hoglund of Hilo; 30 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Patricia Ann Kalaniokahaunani Solomon, 69, of Kapaau, died Nov. 1, 2022 at home. Born Dec. 16, 1952, in North Kohala, she worked for Kohala Middle School Security and Kohala Surety, and a member of Kohala Hawaiian Civic Club; Na Kalai Wa’a; Kawaihae Canoe Club; Hawaiian Island Land Trust; Ke Kuahiwi A Me Ke Moana Hunting Club; Protect Pololu; Friends of Keokea; Friends of Mahukona; and Kupuna Board Member of Malama Pono. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 18 at 52-128 Keokea Park Road, Kapaau. She is survived by, daughters, Hinano Lewis, Ahja (Kaipo) Sproat and Haunani (Mike) Kua; son, Kaawalani (Jamie) Solomon; sister-in-law, Momi Wakita; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
