Kona Community Hospital on Wednesday that the Imaging Department is opening its appointment schedule to include weekend hours for outpatient imaging services.

Judy Donovan, KCH Director of Marketing and Strategic Planning said the hospital had been planning on expanding the department’s hours later in the year, however decided to accelerate the process because of computer issues that forced Hawaii Radiologic to recently close their location on Kuakini Highway.

Hawaii Radiologic Associates is the only other full service radiology service in West Hawaii. Some urgent care centers and clinics offer limited x-ray services.

The expanded schedule at KCH begins Saturday, Nov. 5 and opens appointment slots for Echo Cardiograms, Ultrasounds, and X-Rays. All KCH imaging services are available by appointment only and require a provider referral.

The new weekend schedule does not include MRI imaging or CT scans. Walk-in appointments are not available.

“We’re trialing Saturday and Sunday appointment openings during November and December in order to accommodate our patients’ hectic schedules,” said Craig Davis, Imaging Department Director. “We will review the success of the weekend appointment schedule after the New Year to determine whether it is feasible to make a permanent shift to this new schedule.”

KCH Imaging Department schedulers can be contacted for appointments at (808) 322-4490. In addition, imaging appointment information and forms can be accessed online at kch.hhsc.org/services/imaging/
