Deborra Kaawaloa

Deborra Lee Kaawaloa, 69, of Pahoa, died on Sept. 10, 2022, at her residence. Born in Montgomery, Pennsylvania, she was an educational assistant at Pahoa High and Intermediate School, formerly worked at the Pahoa Post Office and was a foster parent.

Visitation from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Oct. 14 at Dodo Mortuary chapel; funeral service at 10. Burial to follow at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery #2 Pavilion. Casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Lionel Kaawaloa Sr. of Pahoa; sons, Naha (Lupe) Kaawaloa of Las Vegas and Kawika Kaawaloa and Budge (Lani) Kaawaloa, all of Pahoa; daughter, Hoku (Mark) Eiflander of Mountain View; siblings, Donna (Kenneth) Walker, Dean (Laverne) Hess and David Hess, all of Pahoa; brothers-in-law, William Kaawaloa, Jesse Kaawaloa, Stanley (Cheryl) Kaawaloa and Jerry (Brenda Prout) Kaawaloa, all of Pahoa, and Herbert (Phyllis) Kaawaloa of California; sisters-in-law, Leilani Ring and Gladys (Mike) Miller, all of Honolulu, and Mary Jane Kamoku of Hilo; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bonnie Donato

Bonnie Hood Donato, 84, of Hilo, died Oct. 3, 2022 at Life Care Center of Hilo. She was born in Bronxville, New York.

She is survived by son, Hugh (Kerry) Willocks of Hilo; daughter, Nani (Tony) Paul of Hilo; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry Fronda

Larry Francisco Fronda, 74, of Keaau, died Sept. 24, 2022 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Oct. 15, 1947 in Hilo, he was a former construction worker and landscaper.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 14 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, Hilo; funeral service at 6 p.m.; cremation to follow. Casual attire.

He is survived by, son, Larry (Olivia) Fronda of Hilo; daughters, Cheryl (Kevin) Benevides and Patricia (Henry Hoomanawanui) Fronda, all of Hilo; brothers and sisters; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Arvid Ohe

Arvid D. Ohe, 83, of Waimea, died June 8, 2022 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born June 5, 1939, in Minnesota, he worked as a diesel mechanic and did road construction for Morrison Knudsen, self-employed taxi business and a U.S. Army veteran.

Inurnment will be held at noon Oct. 11 at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery in Kailua-Kona.

He is survived by four sisters and nieces and nephews.

Makoto Morihara

Makoto Morihara, 93, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 21, 2022 at the Regency at Hualalai. Born Dec. 25, 1928, in Keokea, he was the owner of the former Morihara Store in Honaunau and a member of Daifukuji Soto Mission.

Private services were held. No koden or flowers.

He is survived by wife, Sumiko Morihara of Kailua-Kona.

Raymond Yanagi

Raymond Shinzo Yanagi, 93, of Holualoa, died Sept. 18, 2022 at Kona Community Hospital. Born May 15, 1929, in North Kona, he was a Realtor for Aala Realty, coffee farmer and assistant at Doris Store in Holualoa.

Private services were held. No koden or flowers .

He is survived by his wife, Doris Yanagi of Holualoa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

David Moniz Sr.

David Kalauhala Moniz Sr., 87, of Waimea, died on Sept. 30, 2022, at his residence. Born in Hoolehua, Molokai, he was a retired refuse collector for the City &County of Honolulu and steward at the former Hyatt Regency Waikoloa and Hilton Waikoloa Village.

A celebration of his life will begin at 11 a.m. Oct. 15 at his residence (65-1170 Kapiolani Rd. in Waimea). Casual attire.

He is survived by daughter, Debra (Kaipolani) Gorai of Honolulu; sons, Dwight (Terese) Moniz of Honolulu, and Keith Keola Moniz of the Big Island; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Masanobu Sumi

Masanobu Sumi, 88, of Keaau, died Aug. 5, 2022, at his residence. Born in Ola’a, he was retired from Hilo Medical Center, a U.S. Air Force Korean War and Vietnam War veteran and member of Puna Hongwanji Mission and Keaau Village Kumiai.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by wife, Kiyo Sumi of Keaau; sister, Sally Entilla of Hilo; and nieces and nephews.
