Increased military traffic should be expected starting Friday amid increased training at Pohakuloa Training Area.
Soldiers are taking part in a large-scale training exercise called Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Center between Oct 31 and Nov. 9 on Hawaii Island and Oahu. Training will include use of blank ammunition and explosive simulators during daytime and nighttime hours at Pohakuloa Training Area.
The increased military traffic will be from Kawaihae Harbor along Queen Kaahumanu Highway, Waikoloa Road and Daniel K. Inouye Highway. After the exercise, there will be increased military traffic between Nov. 19 and Dec. 4.
In addition to an increase in traffic, residents can expect an increase in helicopter, fixed-wing aircraft and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) flights. The increase in aircraft activity will be between Oct. 28 and 30 at Wheeler Army Airfield on Oahu and Bradshaw Army Airfield on Hawaii Island.
