Arrison Aquino

Arrison Paul Aquino, 31, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 3, 2022 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Nov. 22, 1990, in Kealakekua, he was a food server at Humpy’s, Fish Hopper, Lava Lava and Kona Brewing Co.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by mother, Laura Aquino of Kailua-Kona; father, Abel Aquino Jr., of Waimanalo, Oahu; maternal grandfather, J.B. (Diane) Baker of Cleveland, OH.; maternal grandmother, Betty Dentry of Kailua-Kona; paternal grandmother, Rose Nishida of Waimanalo, Oahu; sister, Cari-Rose (Ryan) Coleman; brother, Abel (Hannah) Aquino III; uncle, Ross Wilson, all of Kailua-Kona; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins.

Tomas Rafanan

Tomas Yadao Rafanan, 74, of Waikoloa, died Nov. 19, 2021 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born March 12, 1947, in Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he was a caregiver.

Visitation will be held at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 7 at Dodo Mortuary chapel; funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. The family requests causal attire.

He is survived by wife, Elsie Rafanan; daughter, Liezl Rafanan; sons, Samson (Kristy) Rafanan and Tomas Rafanan Jr., all of Waikoloa; and seven grandchildren.

Stanley Kinoshita

Stanley “Stan” Asao Kinoshita, 88, of Hilo, died Aug. 15, 2022 at his residence. Born Oct. 7, 1933, in Honolulu, he was an insurance agent and founder of Stan A. Kinoshita and Associates, Inc. in Hilo and a member of the Honomu Henjoji Mission and Lincoln Wreckers.

Private services held. No flowers. In lieu of koden (monetary offerings) donations may be made in his memory to Hawaii Care Choices.

He is survived by wife, Marjory Kinoshita of Hilo; son, Brad (Niki) Kinoshita of Hilo; daughter, Sheri (Grant) Nishida of Hilo; sister, Janet Fujimoto of Hilo; brother, Bert (Ruth) Kinoshita of Hilo; three grandsons; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

William Kennedy Jr.

Dr. William “Biff” Joseph Kennedy Jr., 84, of Hilo, died Aug. 24, 2022 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Facility. He taught math at the U.S. Naval Post Graduate School and industrial engineering at University of Utah, Clemson University and U.S. Army Academy West Point, was a retired licensed professional engineer and member of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), a U.S. Navy veteran active duty and reserves, an electrician for Habitat for Humanity Oconee County, South Carolina, and the County Library Board, and was a member of Rotary Clubs in South Carolina and Hilo and The Church of the Holy Cross

Visitation will be held at the Church of the Holy Cross in Hilo on Oct. 8 from 1 to 2 p.m.; celebration of life will begin at 2. No flowers. In lieu of koden (monetary offerings), donations may be made to the Salvation Army.

He is survived by wife, Anna Kennedy of Hilo; son, Matthew Kennedy of Vail, Colorado; daughter, Sarah (Jonathan) Marusek of Hilo; granddaughters, Harriet Marusek and Olive Marusek of Hilo; sister, Debora Kennedy of Madison, Wisconsin; sisters-in-law, Luella Murphy of Klamath Falls, Oregon and Anne Davis of Sacramento, California; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Fujie Shishido

Fujie Shishido, 98, of Hilo, died Sept. 20, 2022, at home. Born in Kona, she was a retired seamstress and dressmaker and member of The Church of World Messianity.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers.

She is survived by son, Edward Shishido of Hilo; daughters, Patricia (Don) Dagenais of Kansas City, Mo., Coleen (Lloyd) Uyeda of Honolulu; sisters-in-law, Setsuko Sato of California, Miyako Kuniyoshi of Hilo, Kayoko Shishido of California; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jane Kubo

Jane K. Kubo, 91, of Hilo, died Sept. 5, 2022, at her residence. Born in Wahiawa, Oahu, she was a retired Kalaniana’ole Elementary School teacher and member of Hawaii State Teachers Association-Retired and University Heights Kumiai.

Private services held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by sons, Bryce (Aleja Rivera) Kubo of Keaau and Earl (Jody) Kubo of Honolulu; daughter, Janelle Kubo of Honolulu; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Masuko

Mary Fuji Masuko, 74, of Hilo died Aug. 31, 2022, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Hospice Facility. Born in Hilo, she was a retired kindergarten teacher at Waiakea, Pahala, Naalehu, and Mountain View elementary schools and a member of the Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts).

She is survived by siblings, Alberta Takashiba of Eleele, Kauai, May (Greg) Navarro of Papaikou, ad nGlenn Masuko of Volcano; and numerous nieces and nephews.
