Richard Cann

Richard Piia Cann, 81, of Hilo, died Sept. 4, 2022, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired Police Officer for the Hawaii County Police Department, also retired as Head of Security for Securitas Security Services at Hilo Airport and was a U.S. Navy Vietnam War veteran.

Private services held.

He is survived by daughter, Nicole (Clayton) Cann-Perreira of Hilo; son, Pono (Michele) Cann of Hilo; and four grandchildren.

Mildred Yamamoto

Mildred Pavao Yamamoto, 82, of Hilo died Sept. 3, 2022, at her residence. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker, former substitute professional cafeteria food service worker for the Department of Education and member of Central Christian Church.

Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 18 at Dodo Mortuary chapel; funeral service at 6. Burial to take place at noon Sept. 20 at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire.

She is survived by son, Bradford (Ann) Yamamoto Sr. of Hilo; daughters, Liyo Yamamoto-Mancia of Long Beach, California, Nyla Yamamoto of Hilo; brother, Richard Pavao of Honolulu; sisters, Jacqueline (Leopoldo) Valera of Hilo, Florence (Fred, Sr.) Leslie of Hilo, Dorothy Smith of North Carolina; brother-in-law, Clement (Judy) Chang, Sr. of Hilo; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
