Big Island schools compete in Kamehameha Tournament

The Konawaena volleyball team was one of just two teams to win all six of their matches in the first two days of the Kamehameha Volleyball Tournament held at the Kamehameha Schools Hawaii campus.

The Wildcats defeated Laupahoehoe, Pahoa and Hawaii Mission Academy on Thursday, followed by wins over Island School Voyager, Pahoa and Kau on Friday.

Konawaena will play Kamehameha-Kapalama in the first round of the final bracket Saturday, with the start time scheduled for 11 a.m.

Hawaii Prep rebounded from a tough Thursday – where they lost to Cathedral Catholic, Damien and Kapolei – to record a 2-1 record on Friday. Ka Makani defeated Keaau and Andrew Hill and lost a close contest to Kamehameha-Maui.

Hawaii Prep will play Clovis in the first round of the final bracket Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

After a perfect 3-0 day Thursday – with wins over Radford, Kamehameha-Maui and Westview – Kamehameha-Hawaii went just 1-2 on Friday. The Warriors defeated Clovis 25-17 and lost to Cathedral Catholic and Kamehameha-Kapalama.

Kamehameha-Hawaii will have a rematch with Kamehameha-Maui in their first-round contest Saturday, scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
