Hilo man gets 10 years for property crimes

Gavin Calicdan, 31, of Hilo was sentenced Monday by Hilo Circuit Judge Peter Kubota to 10 years in prison for a string of property crimes that occurred in 2020 and 2021.

Calicdan pleaded guilty April 8 to two counts of first-degree property damage for damaging a subsidized police vehicle and an apartment building during an emergency.

He also pleaded guilty to three counts of unauthorized possession of confidential personal information, plus first-degree theft for a stolen Toyota 4Runner, second-degree theft for shoplifting, and methamphetamine possession. He had previously pleaded no contest to another count of second-degree theft for shoplifting.

At the time of the offenses, Calicdan was on felony probation for second-degree assault.

The most serious offenses, first-degree property damage and first-degree theft, are Class B offenses carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years upon conviction.
