Michael Meers

Michael Allan Meers, 61, of Hilo, died July 3, 2022. Born June 18, 1961 in Danville, Illinoi, he was self-employed.

Services will be hed at a later date.

He is survived by mother, Annie Meers; sons, William (Naomi) Meers and Isaac (Alicia) Paglinawan; daughters, Renee (Lafo) Otake, Victoria (Reyze) Meers, and Gretchen Paglinawan; sister, Beverly (Mike) Martinez; and 10 grandchildren.

Glenn Matthews

Glenn Thomas Matthews, 74, of Pahoa, died July 9, 2022, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Los Angeles, he was a re tired music teacher at Waiakeawaena Elementary School and a musician.

Services will take place in San Francisco at a later date.

He is survived by son, Thomas (Nicole) Matthews of Connecticut; daughter, Donna (Elijah McCluer) Matthews of Hilo; siblings, Donna Eccles, Susan Wright, Diana Wright and Christopher Wright, all of California; two grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Herbert Segawa

Herbert Akira Segawa, 92, of Hilo, died May 30, 2022, in Hilo. Born in Amauulu Camp 1, he was a former state representative, insurance company manager, member of Kaumana Drive Baptist Church and Kinney Heights Kumiai and founder of Dairy Queen Waianuenue, Kaiko’o Coffee Shop, Happy Tots and Island Supply True Value Hardware.

Private services held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by sons, Wesley (Phyllis) Segawa and Rodney (Susan) Segawa of Hilo; daughters, Sherry (Fred) Sayaboc and Janey Ebesu of Hilo; sister, Lillian (Dr. Justin) Ekuan of Dana Point, Califonia; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Olive Narimatsu

Olive Yaeko Narimatsu, 99, of Hilo, died June 4, 2022, at her residence. Born in Hilo, she was a retired cafeteria manager for Ha’aheo Elementary School and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Buddhist Women’s Association, and the former P&R Senior Bowling League.

Private services held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by daughter-in-law, Sara Narimatsu of Hilo; granddaughter, Erin (James) Franks of Maui; grandson, Eric (Khayala) Narimatsu of Hilo; sisters, Nobuko Nishimura, Michiko (Richard) Uchimura, and Rosalie Takayama, all of Hilo; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Audrey Saplan

Audrey Barbadillo Saplan, 67, of Hilo and formerly of Ka’u, died July 14, 2022, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama. Born in Ka’u, she was a retired office clerk for the Child Support Enforcement Agency.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

She is survived by son, Ryder (Lynn) Yoshida of Ewa Beach, Oahu; daughter, Drina (Keith) Fukunaga of Puna; mother, Christine Saplan; brother John (Marilyn) Saplan; sisters, Yolanda (Jose) Gutierrez, Sandra (Jim) Pedersen, Deidre (Wendell) Sumic, and Joan (Sean) McWilliams, all of Hilo; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack Hultman

Jack Lee Hultman, 69, of Pahoa died July 19, 2022, at his residence. He was born in California.

A celebration of his life will take place at 10:30 a.m. July 31 at the Pu’ula United Church of Christ in Nanawale. Casual attire.

He is survived by son, Thomas Hultman of California; mother, Diane Hultman of Pahoa; siblings, Stephen (Susan) Hultman of Tennessee, Elizabeth (Elliott Frias) Hultman-Salfen of Keaau, Esther (Gordon) Forbes of Washington, Rebecca Natividad of Keaau, Sharon (Colin Nakagawa) Beauchan of Hilo, and Joseph (Stefanie Tai See) Hultman of Makakilo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

George Alapai

George Kema Alapai, 78, of Kailua-Kona, died June 12, 2022, at his residence. Born July 26, 1943, in Pu’uanahulu, he was a ranch hand for Sam Low Farm and Mona Hind.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 13 at Pu’uanahulu Community Rec Center.

He is survived by brother, Howard (Marilee) Alapai; sister, Barbara (Clayton) Tremaine; sisters-in-law, Sally Alapai and Mary Alapai; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lewis Andrade

Lewis “Lew” Andrade, 85, of Hilo, died July 5, 2022 at his residence. Born in Paauhau, he was a retired tax return examiner for the Kauai State Tax office.

He is survived by daughters, Rosemary (Dayle) Orr of Anderson Island, Washington and Stephanie Andrade of Lihue, Kauai; sisters, Joan Dias Souza of Pohakea and Jessie Doreen Anderson of Hilo; brothers, Rio Dotario of Richmond, California, Donald (Masako) Dotario of Richmond, Virgina, Stanley Dotario and Ronnie (Carol) Dotario, all of Kalaheo, Kauai, and Dennis Andrade of Hilo; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
