“An Intimate Evening with Stanley Jordan,” a retrospective solo performance from the beginning to the Jimi Hendrix experience, is coming to the Honokaa People’s Theatre this fall.

World-renowned guitarist Stanley Jordan is best known for developing the “touch technique,” also called “tapping, ” that uses both hands on the guitar neck playing independently. It allows a guitarist to achieve a level of orchestral complexity approaching that of a piano, while still retaining the expressiveness of the guitar.

Jordan made a major splash in guitar circles back in the 1980s, in large part because of his innovative “touch” tapping technique and unusual all-fourths tuning. One of the many highlights of his popular 1988 album, “Flying Home,” is his jaw-dropping instrumental cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.”

Jordan’s performance, presented by Blue Bear Hawaii &B97/93, gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at the theater in Honokaa. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets range from $38 (general admission) to $55 (Gold Circle) and can be purchased online at bluesbearhawaii.com or by calling (808) 896-4845. Tickets are also available at Hilo Music Exchange, Kona Music Exchange, Kiernan Music, Waimea General Store and Rogers Guitars.
