The District 50 Hawaii Lions on June 20 installed the 2022-23 Officers of the Lions Club of Kona. The club also celebrated its 88th anniversary in serving the communities of West Hawaii.

Chartered on June 19, 1934, the third oldest and the state’s largest Lions Club has had a history of providing hearing and vision screening for many elementary schools, conducting health fairs, and has sponsored and supported the Konawaena High School Leo Club. The club, through it’s charitable foundation, has also adopted the Harold Higashihara Park, as well has provided thousands of dollars every year to the Konawaena High School graduating seniors.

This year’s installed officers include Rodney McGee, president; Sharlaine Transfiguracion Gampon, first vice president; Ilihia Gionson, second vice president; Debbie Mabuni, secretary; Joseph Gusman, treasurer; Maurice Kahawaii, Tail Twister; Glenn Uchimura, Lion Tamer; Mitch Tam, membership chair; Norma Matsumoto-LCIF Club coordinator; Makana Amadis Tabar-marketing; chairperson, Vince Mott one year director; Shari Ann Ogi, two-year director; Mitch Tam, program chairperson; and Jack Vore, zone chairperson.

The Lions Club of Kona has 83 members and meets the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Teshima’s Restaurant, second Floor.
