Dorathea Tinao
Dorathea “Dora” Tinao, 83, of Kailua-Kona, died June 12, 2022 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Sept. 13, 1938, in Waimea, Kauai, she was a retired housekeeper at the former Kona Surf Resort, worked at the Laniakea Airport Café and was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. July 16 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona for Mass. The family requests casual attire.
She is survived by sons, Gary Tinao of Hilo, Patrick Tinao, Edward Tinao and Robert Tinao; daughter, Jolene (Gerry) Wike, all of Kailua-Kona; sister, Theresa Benzon of Lihue, Kauai; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Johanna Kaupu
Johanna Kwai Chun Akaka Hiliolani Kaupu, 50, died June 17, 2022 at her father’s home in Keaukaha. Born in Hilo, she was employed by the state Department of Education as an English 10, Language Arts Teacher at Waiakea High School, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a graduate of Kamehameha Schools, Kapalama Campus on Oahu.
Services are pending. No flowers.
She is survived by daughter, Tiara Martino of Salt Lake City, Utah; son, Salvatore Martino of Hilo; father, Raphael (Sandy Cox) Kaupu Sr. of Keaukaha; mother, Johnnette (Eric) Higuchi of Hilo; brothers, Raphael (Meilani) Kaupu Jr. of Keaau and Kyle Higuchi of San Diego; hanai sisters, Tina Marcinkowski of Mountain View and Jessica Oliveira of Keaau; and numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Cynthia Matsuda
Cynthia Sueko Matsuda, 70, died on June 20, 2022 at her residence in Kaneohe, Oahu. Born Jan. 22, 1952, in Kohala, she was employed at The Queen’s Medical Center.
Services will be held at a later date with internment at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punch Bowl) on Oahu.
She is survived by son, Tristen Matsuda of Kaneohe, Oahu; sister, Barbara (Augustine) Kise Arguello of Cypress, California; brother-in-law, Stephen Burbank of Hoopa, California; and nieces and nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts.

Donald Medeiros
Donald Soares Medeiros, 82, of Hilo, died June 19, 2022 at his residence. Born July 11, 1939 in Hilo, he was a retired heavy equipment operator and also retired from the Operating Engineers Local 3 Stabilization Unit and was a member of the American Cowboy Team Roping Association, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hilo, the Operating Engineer’s Local 3, KOA Puna Motorcycle Club, and Onipa’a Softball Team.
Friends may call at 2 p.m. July 10 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 4 p.m. service. Casual attire.
He is survived by companion, Maricar Battad; daughters, Donette (Bobby) Iyo, Laurie (Chucky) Lewis and Carol Ann (Alton Penrose Sr.) Patao; hanai niece, Daniella Palas; brother, Earl De Silva; sisters, Carol (Milton) Hughes-Okada and Jessie (George) Sanborn; hanai brother, Rodney (Margaret) Acia; hanai sisters, Diana (George) Aukai and Shirley Kanehailua; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lawrence Apukai Kalani Akina Kim Jr., 53, of Keaukaha, died May 15, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 25, 1968, in Hilo, he was a truck driver.
