U.S. Rep. Kaialiʻi Kahele recently announced the winner of the 2022 Congressional Art Competition from Hawaii’s second congressional district.
The winning piece was created by Luluka Brown-Spielman, a junior at Kamehameha Schools Hawaii, whose artwork expresses her interpretation of the relationship between man and his ancestors. Brown-Spielman’s first place piece will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol.
The Congressional Institute sponsors the nationwide high school art competition every spring to recognize and encourage artistic talent in each congressional district across the nation. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.
