The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery featured artist for the month of July is watercolor artist and digital designer Stefanie Culbertson.
Culbertson has been painting with watercolors since she first moved to Hawaii in 1989 from Germany. Her fascination with the lush beauty of this Island still inspires her art and she has grown deep roots here. Culbertson, who holds a bachelor’s degree in digital design, started her own business Tiffany Arts Designs in 2006, immediately after graduating, painting and selling her art, working on commissions and creating digital designs.
Among her featured watercolors this month is the watercolor “King Kamehameha Butterfly landing on Plumeria.” The Kamehameha butterfly is one of two endemic species to Hawaii. The Hawaiian blue butterfly is the other native butterfly. It got named after the royal House of Kamehameha “Vanessa Tameamea” in 1821. In 2009, the Kamehameha butterfly was named the Hawaii State Insect, after the initiative and work of a group of fifth graders from Pearl Ridge Elementary.
Meet Culbertson and learn more about her work on Fridays, July 1, 8, and 29. The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery, located in the Keauhou Shopping Center, is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
