Ernest S. Carvalho, 68, of Hilo died April 27, 2022. Born April 9, 1954 in Hilo, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired heavy equipment operator at the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Farm.
Friends may call for visitation from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 24 at Ballard Family Mortuary. Friends may also call at 10 a.m. May 25 for a service at Ballard Family Mortuary; burial will be at 1 p.m. at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima section.
He is survived by daughter, Crystal Carvalho; three grandchildren; half-brother, Robert (Patsy) Carvalho; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rosita Corpuz

Mitzi Mitsue Nakano, 89, of Hilo died March 15, 2022, at Legacy of Hilo Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired clerk for the former Hilo Hospital and a member of the Higashi Hongwanji Garden Club.

Betty Jane Becker, 95, of Kailua-Kona, died May 10, 2022, at her residence. Born June 22, 1926 in Los Angeles, she was a homemaker.

Aaron Tsurumi Sugino, 61, of Pepeekeo died April 23, 2022, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. Born in Hakalau, he was a retired social worker for the Hawaii Department of Health, maintenance personnel at the University of Hawaii-Hilo, formerly employed at Masa Hirowatari Farms, owner of Aaron’s Blue Kalo and a member of the Hakalau Jodo Mission.
