Melvin Paio

Melvin Maikalani Paio, 59, of Waimea, died April 16, 2022 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born April 1, 1963, in Hamakua, he was a ready-mix lead man for West Hawaii Concrete, musician, basketball coach at Laupahoehoe and HPA high schools, volleyball and basketball coach for the Department of Parks and Recreation.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. May 21 at O’okala Park in Hamakua; memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. The family requests casual attire.

He is survived by companion, Tanya Malani of Waimea; sons, Ikaika Paio of Phoenix, Kalani (Queen Mary) Paio of Kohala, Kamaha’o Paio of Waimea and Nainoa Paio of Hilo; daughters, Anela (Jerome) Ubilas of Waikoloa, Kanoe Paio and La’akea Paio, both of Kohala; brothers, Solomon (Kathleen) Paio Jr., of Hilo, Russell (Tonia) Paio of Kailua-Kona, Kevin Tolentino of Waiahole, Grant (Rebecca) Tolentino of Kaneohe, Oahu and Jassen Tolentio of Bridgeport, CA.; sisters, Lucille (Michael) Ordenstein of Kailua-Kona and Mona Ann (David Jr.) Stull of Pennsylvania, Leslee (Tommy) Lonokapu of Hilo and Granette (Richard) Pulliam of Waiahole; and numerous grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Frederick Perreira Jr.

Frederick “Freddy” Tavares Perreira Jr., 74, of Pahoa, died April 19, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Sept. 19, 1947 in Hilo, he was a bulldozer operator for Excavation Tech and a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. May 20 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, Hilo; prayer service at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire.

He is survived by, sons, Fredo (Michelle) Desha, Ashley (Anela) Perreira and Ward Dutton; daughter, Mary Perreira; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Eva Kealamakia

Eva Lindsey Kealamakia, 99 of Waimea, died May 13, 2022, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Waimea, she was the retired Postmistress for the Waimea Post Office, member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Waimea 2nd Ward, Hui Kapa O Waimea and Waimea Senior Citizens.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. May 21 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Waimea; funeral service at 11:15. Burial to follow at the Waimea County Cemetery Mormon Section. Casual attire.

She is survived by children, Ardis (Stewart) Jensen of Saint George, Utah, Myron (Debra) Lindsey of Waimea, Moses (Lesley) Kealamakia of Hilo, and Mark (April) Kealamakia of Waimea; sister, Grace Spencer of Wailuku, Maui; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alan Miyaji

Alan Takashi Miyaji, 69, of Hilo, died March 12, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he worked as a bus driver, truck driver, driving school instructor and mechanic, graduate of Hilo High School and Hawaii Community College and served in the Hawaii Army National Guard.

No monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by sister, Susan Miyaji; and brother, Ray Miyaji, both of Hilo.

Sumiko Yamamoto

Sumiko Yamamoto, 101, of Kailua-Kona, died May 1, 2022 at Life Care Center of Kona. Born Aug. 7 1920, in Holualoa, she was a food server at Kentucky Fried Chicken and a food preparer at Sandy’s Drive In, and a member of the Kailua Seniors Club, Japanese Civic Association, Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple.

Private services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by daughters, Peggy Ciriako of Kailua-Kona, Naomi (Edmund) Yamagata and Sandra Taosaka, all of Kealakekua; sons, Cy (Rose) Yamamoto of Kailua-Kona and Kerry (Nancy) Yamamoto of Ocean View; sister, Betty Kim of Honolulu; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wallace Tamaye

Wallace Mitsuo Tamaye, 84, of Captain Cook, died Jan. 1, 2022 at Life Care Center of Kona. Born June 14, 1937, in Honolulu, he was the owner of Auto Glass Service Hawaii.

He is survived by wife, Patricia Tamaye of Captain Cook; son, Brooks (Krisan) Tamaye of Maui; daughter, Jill (James) Hamada of Irvine, California, Teri (Ernest) Terukina of Aiea, Oahu, Lynn (Michael) Yagi of Captain Cook and Penny (Greig) Keaunui of Hilo; sister, Susan Muraoka of Waipahu, Oahu; 9ninegrandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Susana Agbayani

Susana Dela Cruz Agbayani, 82, of Pepeekeo, died April 20, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born June 23, 1939 in San Juan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, she was a retired assistant manager for KFC – Hilo, formerly worked for Ming’s and Club Shoyu and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou.

Friends mauy call at 5 p.m. May 23 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo; wake service at 6 p.m. Friends may also call at 9:15 a.m. May 24 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Papaikou; Mass at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Lehua Section. Casual attire.

She is survived by sons, Tito (Debra) Agbayani Jr. and Arnold (Lurline) Agbayani, all of Hilo; daughters, Aida (Noel) Agustin and Susan (Marlon) Miller , allof Hilo; sisters, Leonora Sensano of Pepeekeo, Avelina Agbayani of Honolulu, Oahu and Agrifina (Vic) Ignacio of the Philippines; sister-in-law, Adriana Agbayani of Hilo; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Fumie Jyo

Fumie Jyo, 94, of Hilo, died Jan. 18, 2022, at her residence. Born in Papaikou, she was a cook/dishwasher with Kawamoto Store, a former janitress at Homelani Memorial Park, and a former cook at the University of Hawaii at Hilo cafeteria, a member of the East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai, Kumamoto Kenjin Kai and Aunty Sally Kaleohano Luau House Senior Citizens.

Private services held. No koden (monetary offerings).

She is survived by sons, Leonald Jyo and Ronald (Sandi) Jyo, all of Waimea, and Alan (Audrey) Jyo of Keaau; daughters, Elaine Kawasaki and Gayle Jyo, all of Hilo; sister, Shirley Gushiken of Honolulu; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

George Kaiser

George Frank Kaiser, 68, of Keaau, died May 7, 2022. Born Dec. 7, 1953 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he was a retired avionics technician for United Airlines.
