Man pleads not guilty to sex assault charges
A 34-year-old Waikoloa man is set to stand trial in August after pleaded not guilty to seven sexual assault charges, including six committed against a minor, as well as endangering a minor by providing the victim in the case with marijuana.
Andrew Woolen, who also goes by Andrew Wooley, was recently extradited back to Hawaii Island from Kentukcy to face the eight felony offenses handed down in March 2021 by a Big Island grand jury.
The indictment, filed March 8, 2021, charges Woolen with six counts of first-degree sexual assault of a minor between the ages of 14 and 16, and one count each third-degree sex assault and first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor by providing the victim with marijuana.
According to the court document, the alleged offenses occurred between October 2019 and January 2020.
Bail was maintained at $74,000. A press release issued by the Hawaii County Prosecutor’s Office stated bail was set at $75,000, which includes $1,000 bail set in an unrelated case for bail jumping.
First-degree sexual assault of a minor is a Class A felony punishable by up to 20 years behind bars. The other two charges are Class C felonies that carry five years imprisonment.
