George Scoggins Jr.

George F. Scoggins Jr., 76, of Keaau died Jan. 27, 2022. Born July 13, 1945, in Ewa Beach, Oahu, he retired as a bus driver for the Laupahoehoe Transportation Service.

No services planned at this time.

He is survived by companion, Jackie Benton-Ching; sons, Dylan (Shyanne) Scoggins of Hilo, and Donovan Scoggins of California; daughter, Ellie Benton of Keaau; brother, Harold Scoggins of Oahu; step brothers, Alvin Akina Jr. of Kona, John Akina of Hilo; sisters, Catherine Manewa and Frances (Wilder) Lee, all of Keaau; two grandchildren; an uncle; and numerous cousins.

Jean Kami

Jean N. Kami, 86, of Hilo and formerly of Ninole, died March 16, 2022, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Kaimuki, she was a flight attendant for Pan-American Airlines; taught at various schools on Oahu, Big Island and Guam, retiring as a school librarian; a volunteer at the Lyman House Museum and Laupahoehoe School Library; and a member of the Hilo Wine Society.

Private services. The family asks that flowers and koden (monetary donations) be omitted.

She is survived by husband Harry Kami, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Patricia Kauahipaula

Patricia “Pakalika” Lani Kauahipaula, 75, of Kailua-Kona, died April 4, 2022, at her residence. Born Sept. 9, 1946 in Honokaa, she was a retired bus driver for Roberts Hawaii.

Private service to be held.

She is survived by children, Patrick (Darolynne) Kauahipaula of Honolulu, Kristie (Aaron) Laroya, Chain (Casey Kahakai) Kauahipaula all of Kailua-Kona and Misty (Ryan Balles) Kauahipaula; sisters, Mabel Chang, Joyce Kamai all of Honolulu and Vhelma (Sherman) Johnson of California; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hideko Morigawara

Hideko Morigawara, 99, of Captain Cook, died March 21, 2022 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Sept. 6, 1922, in Chintao, China, she was a cashier and hostess at the Waikiki Regency Hotel and was a member of the Hotel, Restaurant, Employees and Bartenders’ union, Local 5; AFL-CIO and Tenshi-Kotai-Jingu-Kyo.

No services planned.

She is survived by step-daughters, Jasmine (Melvin) Kop and Daisy Koga, all of Honolulu and Susan (Shawn) Suzuki of Captain Cook; step-sons, George Morigawara and Roy (Mariko) Morigawara, all of Honolulu; eight step-grandchildren; and five step-great grandchildren.
