The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery featured artist for the month of April is clay flower artist and painter Lorie Taylor.
Taylor grew up and spent most of her adult life in Southern California. After a 30-year career in law enforcement, she retired with her husband on the the Big Island in 2018.
Taylor completed her formal instruction at DECO Clay Craft Academy in Honolulu, where she trained under Master Instructor Yukiko Miyai and Head Office Instructor Chenli Garcia-Wang. She is currently working with local businesses to replace costly fresh flowers with more sustainable clay flowers. In addition, Taylor begun adding acrylic painting and painted paper collage to her repertoire. She believes in sharing her love of the islands and the Hawaiian people through her art, which can be seen in her vibrant colors and subject choices.
Taylor is a new artist at the Blue Seas Artisans Gallery. Talk story with her in April on Fridays from 2 to 6 p.m. when she works or visit her website Loriesclayart.com.
