Barbara Tamm

Barbara Dawn Tamm, 75, of Pepeekeo, died March 9, 2022 at her residence in Pepeekeo. Born in Salisbury, Rhodesia, she was the retired co-owner of the former Bay Lighting &Design store in Hilo.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. April 9 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 4 p.m. service. Casual attire. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA) are welcomed. On-line condolences at www.dodomortuary.com.

She is survived by husband, Chris Tamm of Pepeekeo; daughter, Leanne (CJ McFarland) Tamm of Cincinnati; son, Greg (Liz Curran) Tamm of Hoboken, New Jersey; sisters, Gillian (Howard) Woolford of Hermanus, South Africa and Sheila (Ted) Holland of Somerset West, South Africa; one grandson; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Jean Monnier

Jean Elizabeth “JeanE” Monnier, 70, of Hakalau, died March 9, 2022 at her residence. Born Jan. 25, 1952, in Detroit, she was a horticulturalist who, with her husband, owned and operated J.E.M. Orchids and a past member of the Heritage Christian Fellowship Church of Hilo and active member of Calvary Chapel Hilo Church.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. April 9 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10 a.m. service. Casual attire. In lieu of koden (monetary donations) or flowers, the family requests a donation to any of her favorite charities; Young Life, Good News Prison and Jail Ministries or Ohana Pregnancy Center of Hilo.

She is survived by husband, Eugene Monnier of Hakalau; sons, Eugene (Elsa) Monnier of Seattle and Christopher Monnier of Hilo; sister, Katherine Fisher of Boca Raton, Florida; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Matthew Chow

Matthew Yuen Pui Chow, 95, of Hilo, died March 6, 2022, at his residence. Born in Hilo, he was a retired Hilo High School biology and science teacher, U.S. Army World War II veteran and member of the Hilo Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Friends may call between 4 and 6 p.m. April 3 for a visitation at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo. Private graveside committal service to be held April 4 at Homelani Memorial Park Lehua Section. In lieu of flowers or monetary gifts to the family, consider making donations in his memory to Mauna Loa School, 172 Kapiolani St., Hilo, HI 96720.

He is survived by daughters, Sharolyn (Tom) Parry of Brookfield, Wisconsin, and Loriann (Peter) Bazan of Sonora, California; son, Craig (Joanne) Chow of Hilo; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Yukiko Aoki

Yukiko “Suzie” Aoki, 94, of Hilo died Feb. 20, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a doctor’s assistant for Dr. H.E. Crawford and Dr. J.M. Zelko, member of Taishoji Soto Mission and its YBA and Fujinkai.

Private service held. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts).

She is survived by son, Kent (Guia) Aoki of Hilo; daughter, Pam Deniz of Hilo; sister, Thelma Sato of Hilo; brother, Herbert Sueoka of Arizona; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Marlene Richards-Kaaukai

Marlene Puunani Richards-Kaaukai, 65, of Hilo, died March 4, 2022, at her residence. Born in Hilo, she was a retired dietary aide with the Life Care Center of Hilo and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. March 31 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 8:30 a.m. April 1 at Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church in Keaukaha for 10 a.m. Mass. Burial will follow at the Alae Cemetery. Casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Joshua Kaaukai Sr. of Hilo; sons, Kawika Kaaukai and Joshua Kaaukai Jr. of Hilo; father, Richard Kahalewai of Hilo; brother, Joseph (Sandy) Aguiar of Kurtistown; sisters, Darlene (George Kuwada) Ganigan of Hilo and Daveann Waters of Kohala; three grandchildren; an uncle; and numerous aunties, nieces and nephews.
