Dora Okazaki

Dora Takako Okazaki, 84, of Hilo, died Feb. 10, 2022, at Hale Ku’ike Care Home in Honolulu. Born in Hilo, she was a retired educator and farmer.

Private services. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by sons, Lloyd (Karen) Okazaki and Keith Okazaki of Mililani, Oahu, and Carl (Ji) Okazaki of San Francisco; brother, Roy (Harriet Iyo) Aramori of Kona; sisters, Grace (Roy) Kyono of Bloomington, Minnesota, and Ann (Robert) Kerwin of San Jose, California; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Loretta Pigeon-Souza

Loretta Marie Pigeon-Souza, 74, of Honokaa, died Feb. 7, 2022, at her residence. Born in Hakalau, was an analyst with the Department of the Navy and was also a historian for the Hawaiian State Society of Washington, D.C.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. March 17 at Alae Cemetery for a graveside urn committal service. Casual attire.

She is survived by son, Neil (Edith) Pigeon of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; daughter, Renee (Michael) Novak of Annapolis, Maryland; and four grandchildren.

Florence Lovell

Florence Paiva Lovell, 55, of Hilo, died Feb. 23, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a former home health care worker and a former supervisor with Mauna Kea Banana and a member of the Waiakea Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Private services held.

She is survived by husband, Henry Lovell of Hilo; sons, William (Kalae) Pohina of Maui, and Zephaniah Lovell and Zechariah Lovell of Hilo; brothers, Eddie Paiva and Wendell Paiva; three grandchildren; ad nnumerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Katherine Tamala

Katherine “Carrie” Tamala, 91, of Wainaku, died Feb. 2, 2022, at her residence. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker and a member of the Glad Tidings Church.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. March 18 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for visitation only. Friends may also call at 10 a.m. March 19 at Glad Tidings Church for an 11 a.m. service. Burial will follow at the Alae Cemetery. Casual attire.

She is survived by sons, Tad Tamala of Hilo, Calvin (Roberta) Tamala Sr. of Keaau and and Frank Tamala of Baltimore, Maryland; daughter, Darleen Paiva of Papaikou; step-daughters, Sheila Pang, Frances Ann Perry and Donna Yogi, all of Honolulu; brothers, Severino (Laura) Urubio Jr. of Kaiwiki and Delbert Urubio of Reno, Nevada; sisters, Rose Marantan of California and Kay Ramos of Hilo; 37 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
