When history repeats itself
The year is 2022. Russia invades Ukraine. You hear Donald Trump praise Vladimir Putin. You hear former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo praise the murderous dictator who is attacking Ukraine. Talk show host, Tucker Carlson, broadcasts his support for Russia to millions of people praising Vladimir Putin’s actions as “genius.” We are not sure yet the eventual outcome of this.
The year is 1893. The United States invades Hawaii. The outcome, Hawaii was annexed to the United States in 1898.
To expand the country, the United States pushed their way across the continent invading Indian homelands. The outcome, well you know.
It seems that situations like these have been going on all through history all over the world.

Please visit with respect
I was shopping at Target in Kona Tuesday and noticed a young woman who appeared to be a visitor, not wearing a mask. I reminded her that it was necessary and she replied with a snarky tone “Thanks, Mom!” and continued shopping without covering. Later, I saw her at checkout and simply motioned to cover her face, and she looked away.
Visitors need to be aware that we do not have large medical facilities nor easily accessible specialist physicians, especially on the outer islands. We’ve taken extra precautions to protect our population during these past two years. When visiting here, respect for the health and safety of the locals will be appreciated.
