Applicants sought for ‘Uncle Bo’ scholarship
Applicants are being sought for the 2022 Lawrence “Uncle Bo” Campos Scholarship.
Uncle Bo loved getting everyone involved in outrigger canoe racing and always put Hawaii’s kids first. Perpetuating the sport of outrigger canoe paddling was the heart of this wonderfully dedicated man. He knew that by keeping kids on the water, they too would learn the culture and pass it along to the next generation. This scholarship carries his legacy forward.
The scholarship is open to Hawaii Island graduating seniors with a 3.0 GPA or higher, who demonstrated academic achievement, and community participation, and has paddled at the club or high school level in the past three years. In addition to strong academics, the candidate’s merit of active volunteerism and leadership in the school, community, church, and/or employment will be considered.
Funds are dispersed directly to the recipients to be used to support studies at trade school, community college, or college/university program.
Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. The deadline for receipt of scholarship packets is May 27.
More information and the scholarship application are available at kaiopua.org.
