KEALAKEKUA – In their first appearance of the 2022 season, Konawaena looked right at home Saturday morning in a 6-0 victory over Kealakehe.
Taven Hiraishi earned the win on the mound for the Wildcats, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning. The Waveriders’ Keanu Alokoa ended the no-hit bid with a line drive to center field in the top of the sixth, but not before Hiraishi had struck out Kealakehe 10 batters.
Zesden Tolentino took the loss for the Waveriders. Though he only allowed two hits, a lack of control – four Konawaena batters drew walks and another six were hit by pitches – combined with five Kealakehe errors allowed the Wildcats to tack on their runs.
Six Konawaena players tallied runs: Hiraishi, Ethan Yamaguchi, Trez Uemoto, Charlie Kuwada, Kamehu Makanui and Koa Nakagawa.
Konawaena (1-0) will hit the road on Wednesday, when they’ll take on Kamehameha at 3 p.m.; Kealakehe (0-1) will return home Saturday to host Waiakea at 10 a.m.
In game 2 of the doubleheader at Konawaena, Pahoa defeated Ka’u by a score of 10-0
