Sadao Aoki

Sadao H. Aoki, 88, of Hilo, died Jan. 28, 2022, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Aug. 24, 1933, in Papaaloa, he was retired from the state Department of Education, a member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and a U.S. Army veteran.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 25 at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin for visitation. Casual attire is requested. In lieu of koden (monetary offerings), the family requests donations be made in Sadao’s memory to the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.

He is survived by wife, Annie Aoki of Hilo; sons, Clyde (Donna) Aoki, Keith (Estelle) Aoki and Kevin Aoki, all of Hilo; daughter, Cyndi (Leroy Lareau, III) Aoki-Lareau of Honolulu; sister, Fumie Miyazono of Honolulu; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Theresa Murphy

Theresa Agnes “Teri” Murphy, 73, of Kurtistown, died Jan. 31, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Feb. 25, 1948, in Marysville, California, she retired from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park as a chief dispatcher and was a U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. Feb. 26 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 3 p.m. service. Casual attire is requested.

She is survived by wife, Joan Fagerness of Kurtistown; daughters, Luahiwa (Max) Namahoe of Panaewa and Kathleen (Chris) Leonard of Hilo; sister, Nadine Murphy-Michel of Yuba City, California; brother, Mark Murphy of Phoenix; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two nephews; and numerous cousins.

Emily Miyashiro

Emily Michie Miyashiro, 71, of Waimea, died Jan. 30, 2022, at her residence. Born in Paauilo, she was a homemaker and a member of the Kamuela Hongwanji Mission.

Private services held. The family requests that koden (monetary offerings) be omitted.

She is survived by mother, Takako Ota of Honokaa; sister, Pearl (Ed) Hilden of California; sister-in-law, Joy Ota of Waimea; an uncle; an aunt; numerous cousins; and one niece.

Dennis Torres

Dennis Park Torres, 74, of Honokaa died Feb. 2, 2022, at his residence. Born in Honolulu, he was an irrigation worker and welder for the former Hamakua Sugar Co.y, roofer and construction worker on Oahu and a boxer.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Feb. 23 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa; eulogy at 9:45 a.m. and Mass to follow at 10 a.m. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Cynthia Torres of Honokaa; children, Dennis Torres Jr. of Waimea, and Crystal Torres of Honokaa; siblings, Rudolfo Lopez of Keaau, Ruben Lopez, Estralita Narvaez and Lokelani Rios, all of Honokaa, Cruzanto Lopez Sr. and Ramona Lopez, all of Hilo, Maria (Donald) Smith of Kapoho, Christina (Hinano) Flores of Mountain View, Linda (Tim) Lawrence and Herlinda (Juanito) Jacobo-Rogue, all of Kona, and Tina Marie (Patrick) Enos, and Frances (Thomas) Cummings of Laupahoehoe; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
