Nobu Asai
Nobu Sakata Asai, 94, of Kohala, died Nov. 28, 2021 in Las Vegas. Born Sept. 5, 1927, in Waimea, she was the proprietor of “Nobu’s Beauty Salon” for 55 years, in Kohala and a member of the Kohala Jodo Mission.
Services will be held at a later date.
She is survived by sons, Keith Asai of Las Vegas and Kelly (Debbie) Asai of Hawaiian Paradise Park; brother, Shuji (Shirley) Sakata of Honolulu; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Philibert Kwiatkowski
Philibert “Ski” F. Kwiatkowski, 74, of Puu Hue, died Dec. 23, 2021 at his residence. Born April 11, 1947 in Honolulu, he was a former police officer for the Honolulu Police Department, retired chief of security for the Royal Waikoloan and a member of the Royal Order of Kamehameha, Kohala Chapter.

He is survived by wife, Darlene Kwiatkowski of Puu Hue; step-daughter, Michelle (Mark Nakamoto) Hanano of Waimea; step-son, Derrick (Ericka Misiak) Hanano of Waimea; brother, Michael Kwiatkowski of California; sister, Noel (Arnold) Makowsky of Port Charlotte, Florida; grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Josephine “Nena / Ma Terry” Carvalho Ynigues, 88, died Dec. 11, 2021, in Las Vegas. Born Nov. 28, 1933, in Haleiwa, Oahu, she ran her own taxi and tour business, worked int he hotel industry, private employment, and finally Hawaii Job Corps.

She is survived by sister, Julliet (Leonard) Claunan; children, Judy (Larry) Balberde, Julian (Naomi) Shiroma, and Thaddeus (Su-Ling) Ynigues; eight grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many friends and family.
