Taking away free will
With the Legislature is back in session, we will see throughout the entire session bills to raise taxes, wages, regulations and of course, more gun control. It’s just what they do.
Can you name me one good thing that came out of last session that could be filed under the heading of for “We The People”? No, I seriously doubt it.
West Hawaii Today recently reported that the wise men and women in our Legislature will again propose raising the minimum wage incrementally until it reaches $18 per hour. Guess how much I paid for a cup of coffee yesterday in Waimea — not at one of the pricey coastal resorts, but in Waimea? $5.25 and this is without the proposed minimum wage increase. I won’t name the establishment, but neither will I go back for a refill.
That establishment decided they could get $5.25 for a cuppa and that’s fine. I have the choice to patronize them or not. That’s old-fashioned capitalism. And that coffee shop will either survive or it will not, but if the government is mandating an $18 minimum wage, they’ve once again taken the choice away from us. They’ve taken free will from the proprietor and the customer and that’s called socialism.

Finally live music
Major kudos and mahalo to Akua’s Automotive and Tony Honda Kona! Last weekend’s free “Beyond 4 Walls Kona” concern was an unqualified success with locals from all across Hawaii Island attending. The California-based Christian reggae group Christafari flew in and was featured in a three-hour, three-act music set with The House Hilo and the Heavenly Hula Ministry group performing.
It was so fine to be outside, social distanced, and enjoying live music again! Missed it? Look up B4WK’s website and get on their event mailing list. We can’t wait till Beyond’s next concert.
