Jay Penn
Jay Dee Penn, 76, of Hilo, died Dec. 30, 2021 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Illinois, he was a real estate developer, and involved with the Penn Hawaii Youth Foundation.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at 84 Pu’ueo St. in Hilo for a celebration of life.
He is survived by wife, Lorraine Shin; sons, Jay Penn, JayDee Penn, BJ Penn, Reagan Penn, and Leonard Mamizuka; daughter, Christina Penn; sister, Veronica Penn; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Michael Echavez
Michael Henry Echavez, 56, of Honokaa, died Nov. 30, 2021 at The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born Jan. 16, 1965 in Honokaa, he was a former maintenance engineer for Aston Shores, former boat and auto builder and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa.
Friends may cal at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 8 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa; eulogy at 9:45 a.m.; Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kalopa Catholic Cemetery. Casual attire; no flowers.
He is survived by wife, Lorenza Echavez of Honokaa; sons, Brandon Echavez of Walla Walla, Washington, Brian Echavez of Honokaa and Mitchell (Melanie Ebreo) Echavez of Waikoloa; hanai daughter, Lei Benanua of Honokaa; sister, Tina Stevenson of Oklahoma; step-brothers, Ronald (Sherry) Cambra of California and Clayton (Connie Tu) Cambra of Honokaa; granddaughter, Chelsea Echavez; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kenneth Fukamizu
Kenneth Noboru Fukamizu, 79, of Hilo, died Dec. 19, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired audio-visual technician for the University of Hawaii at Hilo, worked for the Department of Education and Peace Corps and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Private services held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.
He is survived by wife, de Ette Fukamizu of Hilo; son, Mark Fukamizu of Hilo; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Duane Keanaaina
Duane Versery Niumalu Keanaaina, 69 of Kailua-Kona, died Dec. 28, 2021, at his residence. Born Dec. 1, 1952, in Kalaoa, Kona, he was a retired land manager, steward of land for Kamehameha Schools and president of Club Kahauloa.
Services will be held at a later date.
He is survived by wife, Gail Keanaaina; on, Jacob Keanaaina, both of Kalaoa, Kona; brothers, Obed (Jane) Keanaaina, John (Victoria) Keanaaina, Vornell (Lynette) Keanaaina, Jacob (Luana) Keanaaina, Bruce (Rosalyn) Pascua, Richard Pascua, and Wilsam (Tracy) Keanaaina; sisters, Rachel (Sonny) Del Toro, Irene (William) Esko, and Deborah Liliuokalani Howell; one grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
