John Matthew Wolf, 58, of Keaau, died Sept. 24, 2021 at his residence. Born in Ohio, he was a Fire Protection Big Island manager.

He is survived by wife, Jeannine Wolf of Keaau; son, Zachary Wolf of Charleston, South Carolina; brothers, Ed Wolf of Vista, California, James Wolf of Cincinnati, and Chris Wolf of San Antonio, Texas; sisters, Tami Wolf of Cincinnati, and Heidi Staverman of Sanford, North Carolina; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Miyoko Oshiro
Miyoko Oshiro, 97, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 5, 2021, at the Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honohina, she was a retired sales clerk and attended the Kona Baptist Church.

She is survived by sisters, Tomiko Oshiro and Sue Oshiro, both of Hilo, and Jan (Glen) Morphis of Kailua-Kona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Augustina James
Augustina James, 13, of Ocean View, died Nov. 18, 2021, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Jan. 12, 2008, in Kealakekua, she was a student at Waikoloa Elementary School and a member of the Kona Assembly of God Church.
Friends may call from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Dec. 10 at Waikoloa Community Church. Service will begin at 5 p.m. Friends may also call at 2 p.m. Dec. 11 at Naalehu County Cementery for a graveside service and burial. The family requests casual attire.
She is survived by mother, Heldy James of Ocean View; biological mother, Roslynn Smith; brother, Smith James and sister, Kathyso James, all of Arizona.

Karen Umeda
Karen Keiko Umeda, 75, of Hilo, died Nov. 21, 2021, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired Ka’umana Elementary School teacher, also taught at Pa’auilo Elementary and Intermediate School, a floral designer, had worked at the former A Floral Boutique and member of Hilo Hooganji Mission, HSTA-Retired and Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Organization for Women Educators.
A drive-thru visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 15, 2022, at Dodo Mortuary upper carport. In lieu of flowers or monetary gifts, please release a flower into Ice Pond or Reeds Bay. Condolences and memories to share may be sent to judithhara44@gmail.com.

Edwin Nostares Ceredon, 68, of Keaau died Nov. 3 at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a macadamia nut harvester for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co. and a member of the Iglesia Ni Christo Church in Keaau.

Betty Tomie Hamakawa, 93, of Hilo, died Nov. 15, 2021, at a private care home in Aiea, Oahu. Born Sept. 1, 1928, in Hilo, she was retired from the state Department of Transportation Highways Division and member of Hilo AJA Bowling League.

She is survived by son, Brian (Ruth) Hamakawa of Hilo; daughter, Jean (Andrew Smith) Hamakawa of Aiea, Oahu; brothers, Bruce Fukuchi of Honolulu, Frederick Genshiro Fukuchi of Hilo; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Joseph “Square” Nohea Kalima Sr., 92, of Hilo, died Nov. 9, 2021, at his residence. Born in Hilo, he was a retired manager and tour driver with the former Grayline Hawaii, a member of the Haili Congregational Church and Choir, Hawaiian Men’s Golf Club, Merrie Monarch Men’s Glee Choir, and a member of the former Kalima Brothers musical group.
