Nash Kobayashi

Nash Isamu Kobayashi, 66, of Hilo, died Oct. 26, 2021 in Phoenix. Born May 23, 1955, in Hilo, he was a retired maintenance and operations technician/research associate for NOAA Joint Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research Mauna Loa Observatory, machinist/welder for Aloha Machine and Welding and former Hilo Iron Works, worked for the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope, the former Hilo Coast Processing and Puna Sugar Cos., and was the captain/owner of fishing vessel “Ocean Warrior,” founding member of Big Island Gun Club, life member of National Rifle Association, and member of Granders Club.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Michelle Kobayashi of Hilo; hanai brother, Ralph (Sophia) Takafuji Jr. of Hilo; and hanai sister, Carol (Keith) Kawamoto of Oahu.

Donald Gonzales Jr.

Donald Divine Gonzales Jr., 36, of Keaau died Nov. 21, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a freelance professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Dec. 3 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 10 a.m. Dec. 4 at Alae Cemetery for a graveside committal service. Casual attire; no flowers.

He is survived by daughters, Devine Salondaka-Gonzales of Texas, Desire Gonzales-Manners, Datiyah Gonzales-Manners, Diamond Gonzales-Manners all of Pahoa and Loyalty Ribordy of Keaau; sons, Isaiah Gonzalez of Waimea and Shandon Gonzales-Manners of Pahoa; father, Donald Devine Gonzalez Sr. of Oahu; mother, Samantha (James) Thomas of Keaau; brothers, Nephi Lancaster of Keaau and Kananialika Abadilla of Hilo; sisters, Bonita Gonzalez of Mountain View and Annie Alvarez of Keaau; maternal grandfather, Alexander Lancaster of Hilo; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Tyson Garcia

Tyson Kelii Garcia, 44, of Keaau, died Oct. 27, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a cook and member of the Koa Puna Motorcycle Club.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by sons, Kelii Garcia and Kahiau Garcia of Kona; mother, Phyllis Garcia of Kona; father, Moody Tripp of Oahu; sisters, Toni (Conrad Kealoha) Acia of Keaau and Cachet (Tusi White) Tripp of Oahu; brothers, Jonah (Jolyn) Broad, Moody (Chantel English) Tripp, Kalei (Michelle Longaman) Tripp and Ikaika (Taylor Bento) Tripp, all of Oahu; hanai father and mother, Albert and Michelle Amaral of Kona; hanai brother, Kawelu (Sheree) Medeiros of Oahu; hanai sisters, Misti (Kaleo) Padilla of Kona and Kiana Amaral of Oahu; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Amy Ross

Amy Kubo Ross, 92, of Mililani, Oahu, and formerly of Hilo died Nov. 17, 2021, on Oahu. Born in Kealakekua, she was a retired pastry cook for the Brazosport Independent School District in Texas.

Friends may call at noon Dec. 6 at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Pavilion for a committal service. Casual attire.

She is survived by children, Carol (James) Aiona and Curtis Ross, both of Hilo, and Sharon Ross of Austin, Texas; sisters, Judy (Ed) Fukuda of Hilo, and Michi (Robert) Hines; brother, Ralph (June) Kubo; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Duane Harens

Duane Lee Harens, 67, of Captain Cook, died Nov. 7, 2021 at his residence. Born June 15, 1954, in Bismarck, North Dakota, he was a coffee farmer, award-winning homebrewer, and a sommelier.

Services will be held at a later date. No flowers.

He is survived by son, Christopher (Renee) Harens; sisters, RaeAnn Levey and Mary Beth (Larry) Dreher; and brother, Dean (Deborah) Harens.

Harold Schwartz

Harold “Hal” Schwartz, 74, of Hilo, died Nov. 19, 2021 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Chicago, he was a prosecutor for Hawaii County, volunteer for Hospice of Hilo, board member of the Komohana Association, and judge of the YWCA Teen Court.

Private services to be held.

He is survived by spouse, Belinda Cole-Schwartz of Hilo; sons, Benjamin (Kate) Schwartz of Seattle, Rio Cole of Honolulu, and Makoto Cole of Los Angeles; daughters, Rachel (Sam Goldenberg) Schwartz of Portland, and Melody Cole of Phoenix; and three grandchildren.
