Hawaii Island police arrested 14 motorists for suspected drunken driving Nov. 15 and Sunday. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes and two were younger than age 21.
Puna and South Hilo officers arrested five drivers in each district while Kona and South Kohala officers arrested two in each of their districts, according to data released Tuesday by the Hawaii Police Department.
So far this year, there have been 962 DUI arrests compared with 884 during the same period last year, according to police.
There have been 716 major accidents so far this year compared with 691 during the same period last year.
As of Sunday, 25 fatalities had been recorded on the Big Island’s public roadways this year, police said. By that time in 2020, 14 people had died.
