Gilbert Kamegawa

Gilbert Minoru Kamegawa, 87, of Hilo, died Oct. 20, 2021, at his residence. Born in Kohala, he was a retired delivery driver/salesman with Joe Kim Kim Chee on Oahu.

Private services held. The family requests flower and koden (monetary offerings) be omitted.

He is survived by sister, Gail (Earl) Kaku of Hilo; brother-in-law, Edward Wong of Honolulu; sister-in-law, Elaine Kamegawa of Honolulu; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kazue Shibata

Kazue “Kay” Y. Shibata, 90, of Hilo, died Oct. 30, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was retired from KTA Super Stores, downtown.

She is survived by husband, Hisaichi Shibata of Hilo; son, Lane (Gail) Shibata of Hilo; grandson, Arick Shibata of Hilo; sister, Chieko Komatsu of Honolulu; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Caroline Riviera

Caroline Miday Riviera, 87, of Hilo, died Oct. 23, 2021, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Papaikou, she was a retired cook with the Life Care Center of Hilo and member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Private services held. Celebration of life services at a later date.

She is survived by sons, Michael (Patricia) Riviera of Hilo and Thomas Riviera of Berkley, California; daughters, Vanessa (Steven Cardoso Jr.) Riviera and Deborah Milare of Hilo; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Isao Sugai

Isao Aimoku Sugai, 56 of Ocean View died Nov. 11, 2021, at his residence. He was born Nov. 25, 1964, in Honolulu.

He is survived by spouse, Cindy; and daughter, Mardani Sugai of Ocean View.

Ruth Duffy

Ruth Mary Duffy, 98, of Kailua-Kona, died Nov. 11, 2021, at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born March 31, 1923 in Jersey City, New Jersey, she was a homemaker and a former engineer for Western Electric Company.

Private service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Hospice of Kona, PO Box 4130, Kailua-Kona, HI 96745.

She is survived by daughters, Catherine Woodbury of Kailua-Kona, and Terry Duffy of Oregon; son, John Duffy of Colorado; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Patricia Bueb

Patricia Beatrice Mathews Bueb, 97, of Volcano, died Nov. 14, 2021 at her residence. Born Oct. 11, 1924, in San Jose, California, she was an artist.

She is survived by son, Daniel (Stephanie) Mathews; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Patrick Menino Sr.

Patrick Henry Menino Sr., 76, of Hilo, died Nov. 10, 2021, at his residence. Born March 9, 1945, in Hilo, he was retired from Hawaiian Telcom as a cable splicer, U.S. military veteran and member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may all at 4 p.m. Nov. 22 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 23 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for 9:30 a.m. Mass. Burial will follow at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 at noon. Casual attire is requested.

He is survived by wife, Joanne Menino of Hilo; sons, Patrick (Brandee) Menino, Jr. of Keaau, Tim (Sherrie) Menino of Virginia and Gregg (Zerin) Menino of Hilo; brother, George R. Menino, Jr. of Hilo; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
