Registration is now open for a spring afterschool program offered at Konawaena and Kealakehe elementary schools by the La‘i ‘Opua 2020 Enrichment Program.

This free program starts Jan. 10, 2022, and runs through May 6, 2022. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade at Kealakehe and Konawaena elementary schools are eligible to attend; program days are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, afterschool until 4:30 p.m.

The creative, interactive curriculum focuses on three main areas — English language literacy, STEM, and Hawaiian language and culture. The ALOHA code of conduct is observed and small class sizes, one teacher to 10 students, create opportunities for individual attention.

The Enrichment Program is funded through April 2024 by the Native Hawaiian Education Program of the U.S. Department of Education as part of an award totaling $2.6 million.
