Eva Rowe

Eva Misao “Champ” Rowe, 82, of Hilo, died Oct. 17, 2021, at her residence. Born in Keaukaha, she was a retired grounds and parks maintenance supervisor at the Hoolulu Park Complex, formerly employed at the former Sun Sun Lau Restaurant and Naniloa Hotel, co-founder of the Surferettes Volleyball Team, paddled canoe for both Kamehameha and Prince Kuhio Canoe Clubs, and played softball for Leialoha’s Softball team and volleyball for the KCYO team.

Friends may call at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Casual attire.

She is survived by children, Raymond (Kim) Rowe Jr., Kenneth (Roxie) Rowe, Jarrod (Yvette) Rowe, Evalynne Rowe, and Lance (Lei) Rowe, all of Hilo; siblings, Mabel Iopa, Lawrence (Sue) Poai, Sybil (James) Evans, George Poai and Cathy (John) Simmons all of Hilo, and Dennis (Elena) Poai of Kona; 19 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Yoriyuki Kano

Yoriyuki Kano, 91, of Hilo and formerly of Paauilo, died Sept. 18, 2021, at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born June 18, 1930, in Keopu, Kona, he was retired from the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and was a member of Paauilo Hongwanji Mission, Hamakua Jodo Mission, Orchid Isle Nisei Bowling Club and Hilo AJA Bowling Club.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Nov. 5 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a public visitation with a private service to follow. Family requests casual attire be worn and no monetary gifts or flowers. He is survived by son, Derek (Marites) Kano of Hilo; daughters, Debra Cannoles, Doreen (Curtis) Canario, and Diane (Gaine) Hakoda, all of Hilo; brothers, Mayuki (Polly) Kano of Pearl City, Oahu, and Harry (Naomi) Kano of Aiea, Oahu; sister, Elsie Shishido of Hilo; five grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Walter Deguair

Walter Wayne Deguair, 56, of Volcano, died Oct. 8, 2021 in Hilo. He was born Nov. 4, 1964, in Honolulu.

Friends may call from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 6 at 15-1649 12th Avenue in Keaau for a service.

He is survived by daughter, Amy Deguair; parents Joseph Deguair Sr. and Victoria Deguair; brothers, Joseph Deguair Jr. and Charles Deguair; sisters, Roxanne Decambra and Orlena Deguair; two grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Charles Ikeda

Charles Takashi “Taka” Ikeda, 71, of Hilo, died Oct. 1, 2021 at his residence. Born May 5, 1950, in Tokyo, Japan, he retired from the County of Hawaii as the program director of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and was a member of Hale Pule Ke’ola Hou, Under His Wings Ministry, Total Recs Golf Club and Piopio Bears Athletic Association.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Nov. 11 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11:30 a.m. service. Casual attire is requested.

He is survived by wife, Joyce Higashi Ikeda of Hilo; daughter, Marie (Devan) Inouye of Pearl City, Oahu; son, Gavin (Cara) Ikeda of Hilo; step-sons, Michael (Terri) Inouye of Hilo and Travis (Lindsey) Sueno of Honolulu; brother, George (Mae) Ikeda of Pahoa; five grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

James South

James Roger South, 72, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 21, 2021, at Kona Community Hospital. Born March 20, 1949, in Pasadena, California, he was a sales representative for Kona Mountain Coffee, a retired music teacher and a musician.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by sister, Karen (Ron) Repan of Captain Cook; brother, Robert (Mari) South of California; and nephew, Kevin Repan of Nevada.

Darrell Kobayashi

Darrell Kobayashi, 65, of Pahoa, died Sept. 30, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 4, 1956, in Hilo, he worked for Island Supply and K.W. Construction.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by hanai son, Michael (Ashly) Totman of Pahoa; hanai daughters, Ashly (Cale) Okamoto and Karley (Christian) Agudo of Pahoa; mother, Leilani Kobayashi of Pahoa; brothers, Russell (Kathleen) Kobayashi of Keaau, Wesley (Barbara) Kobayashi and Brian Kobayashi of Pahoa; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
