A 19-year-old Waimea man is facing a handful charges stemming from several property crimes Thursday in Waimea.
On Thursday morning,, South Kohala Patrol and Community Police officers responded to a report of a burglary at a business located in the 1100 block of Lindsey Road, according to the Hawaii Police Department. The suspect was observed via video surveillance entering into the closed business by damaging a lock and then damaging contents within the building. The man left prior to the business opening, however.
Later that day, another report was received in the 1200 block of Lindsey Road. A witness reported a suspicious man pushing a bicycle. When the witness contacted the man, he abandoned the bicycle and left the area. The owner of the bicycle was contacted and stated that he had placed his bicycle in a bike rack and no one had permission to take or use it.
A third report was then received, also from a business in the 1200 block of Lindsey Road, that a man was sleeping within a rental room that was supposed to be vacant. It was alleged that the man broke a door to an adjacent room that was being cleaned by staff. The man was questioned by personnel from the establishment and left the area.
However, police contacted the man, identified as Dylan Gomes, in the parking lot of the business and where he was taken into custody.
South Kohala Patrol and Community Police officers were able to link Gomes to the three incidents. On Friday, police charged Gomes with two counts second-degree burglary, two counts third-degree criminal property damage, and one count fourth-degree theft. His bail was set at $23,000.
Gomes was also arrested on one outstanding warrant of arrest with that bail set at $500. At the time of his arrest, Gomes was out on bail for an incident that occurred in September.
