Nearly a third of the new COVID-19 cases reported across the state Monday were from the Big Island.
Twenty-eight new COVID-19 cases were reported Monday on the Big Island, bringing the total case count to 10,914 since late February 2020. Statewide, 97 new cases brought the statewide case count to 83,488, according to the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency.
According to HI-EMA, 1,665 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 409 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 120.9 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 29 cases per day.
Hawaii County’s seven-day test positivity rate was 4.2% Monday, twice the state’s 2.1% positivity rate.
On Monday, 11 people with COVID-19 were hospitalized on the Big Island. Seven of the island’s 24 ICU beds were available with one of the beds occupied by a COVID-positive patient. Eleven of the island’s ventillators were in use, however, none was being used to treat COVID patients.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported by the state on Monday. Of the 888 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 668 were on Oahu, 94 were on Maui, 112 were on the Big Island and nine on Kauai. Five deaths were among residents outside the state.
Meanwhile Monday, the state reported 66% of Big Island residents — or more than 132,370 people — were fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Some 78% has received at least one dose.
Statewide, 70.9% of the total population was fully vaccinated while 79.4% had received at least one dose.
According to the Department of Health, more than 2.14 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Hawaii, including more than 72,000 booster doses. An estimated 413,777 individuals are either unvaccinated or have not yet completed the inoculation process.
