Big Island COVID fatalities surpass 100

State health officials on Saturday reported two fatalities and 49 additional cases of COVID-19 on the Big Island.

With the new fatalities and cases, the island’s death toll reached 103 and case count 10,440.

Across the Aloha State, 196 new cases were reported by health officials on Saturday, bringing the statewide case count since late February 2020 to 81,283.

According to the DOH, 3,331 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 624 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 189 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 39.6 cases per day.

Hawaii County’s seven-day test positivity was 4.6% Saturday, well above the state’s 2.8% positivity rate.

On Saturday, 13 people with COVID-19 were hospitalized on the Big Island. Two of the island’s 24 ICU beds were available with six of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Three of the COVID-positive patients were on a ventilator.

Of the 837 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 631 were on Oahu, 90 were on Maui, 103 were on the Big Island and eight on Kauai. Five deaths were among residents outside the state.
