Big Island coronavirus-related death toll hits 99

State health officials on Thursday reported three new coronavirus-related deaths and 54 additional cases of COVID-19 on the Big Island.

With the new fatalities and cases, the island’s death toll reached 99 and case count 10,352.

Across the Aloha State, 304 new cases were reported by health officials on Thursday, bringing the statewide case count since late February 2020 to 80,886.

According to the DOH, 3,744 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 676 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 222.3 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 45.7 cases per day.

Hawaii County’s seven-day test positivity rate rose to 5.2% Thursday, well above the state’s 3.2% positivity rate.

On Thursday, 14 people with COVID-19 were hospitalized on the Big Island, down from 20 on Tuesday. Five of the island’s 24 ICU beds were available with five of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Three of the COVID-positive patients were on a ventilator.

Eight new coronavirus-related deaths were reported by the state on Thursday; five were on Oahu and three were on the Big Island. Of the 826 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 625 were on Oahu, 89 were on Maui, 99 were on the Big Island and eight on Kauai. Five deaths were among residents outside the state.
