Hawaii Island’s COVID-19 case count reached 10,289 Wednesday with 34 new COVID-19 cases reported by state health officials. Two new coronavirus-related deaths were also reported.
Across the Aloha State, 168 new cases were reported by health officials on Wednesday, bringing the statewide case count since late February 2020 to 80,582.
According to the DOH, 3,883 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 708 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 228.6 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 47 cases per day.
Hawaii County’s seven-day test positivity rate dropped to 5.1%, still above the state’s 3.3% positivity rate.
On Wednesday, 17 people with COVID-19 were hospitalized on the Big Island, down from 20 on Tuesday. Six of the island’s 24 ICU beds were available with five of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Three of the COVID-positive patients were on a ventilator.
Seven new coronavirus-related deaths were reported by the state on Wednesday; five were on Oahu and two were on the Big Island. Of the 818 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 620 were on Oahu, 89 were on Maui, 96 were on the Big Island and eight on Kauai. Five deaths were among residents outside the state.
According to the latest Hawaii COVID-19 vaccine summary, 2,051,164 vaccine doses — including booster doses — have been administered through state and federal distribution programs as of Wednesday, up more than 8,000 from Tuesday.
To date, 69% of the state’s population is now fully vaccinated and 77.1% have received at least one dose. Another 34,460 booster doses have been administered.
The Big Island reported Wednesday 65% of its residents were fully vaccinated; 76% of the population has received at least one dose.
The state estimates 117,604 eligible individuals have yet to receive a shot, down from 118,658 on Tuesday.
