Dorothy Carvalho
Dorothy Carvalho, 86, of Hilo, died Sept. 10, 2021, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born Nov. 23, 1934, in Hilo, she was a homemaker, babysitter and member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Friends may call at 8 a.m. Oct. 6 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park Section 7. Casual attire; orchids are welcome.
She is survived by sister, Barbara De Mello of Hilo; sisters-in-law, Hatsue Carvalho and Charlene Carvalho of Hilo; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Yeiko Arakaki
Yeiko “Blackie” Arakaki, 86, of Hilo, died Sept. 17, 2021, at his residence. Born April 20, 1935, in Hilo, he was the retired proprietor for the former Blackie’s Shell in California.
Friends may call for a public visitation from 3 to 4 p.m. Oct. 6 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo; private service follows. Family requests casual attire be worn.
He is survived by wife, Caroline Arakaki of Hilo; sons, Corey Arakaki of Hilo, Kurt (Kristi) Arakaki and Kent (Rosa) Arakaki of Los Angeles; brother, Hiroshi Arakaki of Orange County, California; sister, Amy Arakaki of Orange County, California; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Miulan Yoshizumi
Miulan “Michie” Kalani Palacio Yoshizumi, 55, of Hilo, died Aug. 8, 2021, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Honokaa, she was a retired chef for various restaurants in Central California.

She is survived by lifelong partner, Wade Yoshizumi; mother, Lillian Rosati; father, Ignacio (Dee) Palacio Jr.; brothers, Shannon (Crissy) Palacio, Van Palacio, and Vito Rosati; sisters, Helena Rosati and Kaleo (James) Kaapana; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Kassandra Tatiana Noelani Tavares, 34, of Pahoa, died Sept. 9, 2021. Born in Hilo, she worked as a mechanic assistant manager for Puna Kai Gas and Go and was a member of The Church of Sure Foundation

Miu Matsumura
Miu Chee Matsumura, 96, of Hilo, died Sept. 20, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired office manager for the former Morgan’s Service Station, a retiree of the Pacific Macadamia Nuts Corp. and a member of the Berean Bible Church and Choir.
Friends may call for visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 5 at Dodo Mortuary chapel. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, funeral and graveside services will be private. Casual attire; no flowers.
She is survived by sons, Morgan (Cindy) Matsumura and Miles Matsumura of Hilo, Thomas (Beverly) Matsumura of Camarillo, Calif., Wayne (Hung) Matsumura of Seattle, and Donn (Terri) Matsumura of Keaau; sister-in-law, Florence Lee of Hilo; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mildred “Millie “ Miyeko Kawano, 94, of Waimea, died Sept. 28, 2021, at her residence. Born May 24, 1927 in Honolulu, she was a homemaker.
