Forty new cases of COVID-19 were reported Monday on the Big Island, pushing the island’s total case count to 10,249.
Statewide, 195 new cases were reported Monday, bringing the state’s total to 80,323 since late February 2020, according to the Department of Health.
According to the DOH, 4,238 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 734 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 259.1 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 50 cases per day.
Hawaii County Monday had a seven-day test positivity rate of 5.3%, still above the state’s 3.5% positivity rate.
On Monday, 20 people with COVID-19 were hospitalized on the Big Island. Three of the island’s 24 ICU beds were available with five of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Three of the five COVID patients were on a ventilator.
Of the 811 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 615 were on Oahu, 89 were on Maui, 94 were on the Big Island and eight on Kauai. Five deaths were among residents outside the state.
