Fifty-six new cases of COVID-19 were reported Thursday on the Big Island, pushing the island’s total case count to 10,006.
Statewide, 332 new cases were reported Thursday, bringing the state’s total to 79,206 since late February 2020, according to the Department of Health.
According to the DOH, 5,130 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 787 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 306.6 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 48 cases per day.
Hawaii County Thursday had a seven-day test positivity rate of 5.1%, still above the state’s 3.9% positivity rate.
On Thursday, 21 people with COVID-19 were hospitalized on the Big Island. Five of the island’s 24 ICU beds were available with five of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Three of the five COVID patients were on a ventilator.
Twelve new coronavirus-related deaths were reported Thursday; including two on the Big Island and 10 on Oahu. Of the 782 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 592 were on Oahu, 87 were on Maui, 90 were on the Big Island and eight on Kauai. Five deaths were among residents outside the state.
