The Friday West Hawaii Today headline “Ironman moved” should have read, “Another Hawaii Business Moves On” … and it is apparent no one cares economically.
Has Hawaii now become a socialistic state? We now take orders from bureaucrats as to how we must live our lives. We now see the same bureaucrats having no care for our state’s economy (e.g. no more visitors). We now see the same bureaucrats offering more stimulus payments. With money we do not have. We now see what seems very much like a socialist agenda.
If that is what the people want, so be it.

Ironman’s decision
The Ironman was an economic asset to the Big Island decades ago when it was staged at the time of year then considered the “off season.”
There is no off season anymore as visitors frequent Hawaii year-round.
With or without the Ironman, athletes the hotels will be as full, the restaurants will be as busy, and the perpetual shortage of rental vehicles will continue.
All that is left is for us to watch the asinine practice of self-worshiping people exerting themselves to the point of utter exhaustion in an attempt to draw as much attention (and therefore sponsorship) to themselves as possible, while the residents put up with even more exacerbating traffic issues than usual.
If they moved Ironman to the moon, I for one would be quite content with the decision.
